AMREF Patron, President Daniel Arap Moi raised KSh 27 million (cash and pledges) for the construction of the AMREF Training Centre in Nairobi. Presiding over the fundraising, the president donated KSh 890,000, while AMREF fund-raising committee contributed over KSh 1 million and the AMREF Board of Governors KSh 272,000 – cheque presented to President Moi by Constance van Haften (AMREF Netherlands Exec. Dir.). The president directed that AMREF be exempted from paying VAT for all equipment and materials for the construction, cutting construction costs by 14M
